Plato was a great poet , a mystic and a philosopher . Aristotle the most distinguished disciple of Plato . He was a critic ,scholar , logician and practical philosopher . He is known for his critical treatise;(1) The poetics and (2) The Rhetoric dealing with art of poetry and art of speaking . He was a codifier; he derived and discussed the principles of literature as manifest in the plays and poetry existing in his own day . Aristotle agrees with Plato in calling the poet an imitator and creative art , imitation. He imitates one of the three objects . 1. things as they were/are 2. things as they are said/thought to be 3. things as they ought to be .

Aristotle believes that there is natural pleasure in imitation , which is in - born instinct in men . in a grown up child - a poet ,there is another instinct , helping him to make him a poet - the instinct for harmony and rhythm .

poetry, therefore, is more philosophical and a higher thing the history , which expresses the particular, while poetry tends to express the universal . Therefore , the picture of poetry pleases all and at all times.

Further in the 'poetics' Aristotle is giving the definition of Tragedy " Tragedy , then, is an imitation of an action that is serious , complete , and of a certain magnitude; in the language embellished with each kind of artistic ornament , the several kinds being found in separate parts of the play; in the form of action , not of narrative; through pity and fear effecting the proper purgation -catharsis of these and similar emotions Aristotle's poetics : six parts of Tragedy. 1. the spectacle , which is the overall visual appearance of the stage and the actors. The means of imitation (language, rhythm , and harmony) can be divided into . 2.melody / songs , and 3. diction 4.character 5. though6. the plot (fable)

 1).How far do you agree with Plato’s objection to freedom of expression and artistic liberty enjoyed by creative writers? Name the texts (novels, plays, poems, movies, TV soaps etc which can be rightfully objected and banned with reference to Plato’s objections)

Ans. We live a good life because we live our life with morality, but if we want to live a perfect life, we should follow the ideas of Aristotle, but I agree with Plato's freedom of expression and objectionable artistic freedom by writers. According to me, Plato is right because many films, magazines, categories are producing bad impressions in society and spoil the minds of people. It also creates a sense of concern for the thinkers.

2) With reference to the literary texts you have studied during B.A. programme, write brief note on the texts which followed Aristotelian literary tradition (i.e. his concept of tragedy, catharsis, tragic hero with hamartia etc)

Ans. During my B.A program, I studied the play 'Othello' tragedy drama, it is itself Othello. I think these things are like Hamartia, evil errors, anarchy of judgment. Othello kills his wife, but when he realizes the reality, he feels very sad

3.With reference to the literary texts you have studies during B.A. programme, write brief note on the texts which did NOT follow Aristotelian literary tradition. (i.e. his concept of tragedy, catharsis, tragic hero with hamartia etc.)

Ans,I have studies during B.A. programme, write brief note on the texts Othello did NOT follow Aristotelian literary tradition.
